Structure is the Key to Potential

In the world of IT, we have a term called GIGO (Garbage In, Garbage Out). It's slang for the output results from a computer system that had bad input and I have found that this concept applies to much more than just coding. It applies to how we think and how we grow.

The Conflict of Energy

Many of us lead very unstructured lives. When we try to figure out where Artificial Intelligence (AI) can assist us, we often have difficulty because the assistance the AI can provide must be structured input in order to get good results.

I admit that I have struggled with this myself. We are all busy and often do not have the time to properly plan out what we want. Instead, we put as little effort as we can into the input with hopes that it will be enough.

This is not a flaw in your character. It is because we are, as much as we like to think otherwise, just animals, and conserving energy between the hunts is vital. It is natural to want to save your energy.

Structure Helps!

The difference between unstructured and structured approaches

Moving From Instinct to Intention

The challenge is how can each of us find the time and the skills to clearly articulate what we want so we do not create the usual GIGO pattern.

Just as a martial artist must perfect their Kata (form) before they can spar effectively, you must structure your thoughts before you engage with the tool.

How to Sharpen Your Mind

• Pause before you prompt. Resist the urge to rush. • Define your intent. Be precise. The AI exposes the clarity of your thinking. • Respect the process. Good structure is not a constraint; it is the path to freedom from bad results.

By putting more structure into our inputs, we do not just get better answers from our tools. We cultivate a more disciplined and articulate mind.
